Climate-change Mitigation Guideline consultation process
About the guideline
Open Hydro’s guideline is the first-of-its-kind for hydropower asset owners and developers
The guideline provides the much-needed clarity to report emissions, climate mitigation actions and analyse the mitigation risks and opportunities.
The guideline aligns with the GHG Protocol Standard and the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations on strategy and metrics and targets core areas.
Join Open Hydro’s network to learn now businesses in the hydropower sector can implement the guideline and improve the reporting practices to the leading frameworks, fulfil financiers’ and investors’ requirements and comply with climate reporting regulations.
What our supporters say about the guideline
“Participating in the testing phase of the Open Hydro’s Climate Change Mitigation Guideline was very valuable. We could attend the spaces created to provide input and share knowledge about the reporting practices, as well as allowing us to broaden the perspective of the scope of these reports, when considering incorporating risks and opportunities generated by climate change”
“I found the space that Open Hydro created with the peer companies very valuable, as it offered several opportunities to exchange ideas from different points of view, and involving different types of expertise.”
“Industry-specific efforts, like Open Hydro’s initiative, are vital to improving and advancing climate-related reporting. The Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) welcomes further progress by industry experts to develop metrics and increase organisations’ understanding of climate-related risks and opportunities to inform into potential financial impacts.”
Groups engaged in creating the Guideline & the Consultation
Open Hydro is the originator of the Initiative and its secretariat, managing operations and administration of the Initiative.
We created groups to support each stage of the development and consultation and invited participants who have each contributed valuable content and time reviewing the Guideline:
Technical Working Group
Guides and steers development of the draft Guideline on climate mitigation reporting. Integrates feedback from the testing group into the Guideline and solves issues raised in the consultation process.
The group includes specialists from top companies and financial and research institutions in the hydropower sector.
Pilot Testing Group
Investigates and tests the practical implications of using the Guideline within hydropower operators.
Participants are owners and operators of hydropower assets, and other end-users of the standardised reporting guideline.
Review Group
Reviews the Guideline to ensure its quality and alignment with international recommendations.
The group includes key leading organisations on climate-aligned reporting, including TCFD Secretariat, CDP, the World Resource Institute (WRI), and the World Benchmarking Alliance, among others.
Open Consultation Group
Gives the broader opinion on the Guideline’s affects, within and beyond the sector to ensure a comprehensive, inclusive and quality Guideline.
Participants are sector and non-sector individuals and organisations, who submit their views and suggestions to be reviewed and appropriately included in the Guideline before its publication.
