New financial instrument to capture methane in hydropower plants

High-emitting hydropower reservoirs will be able to reduce their methane emissions. Open Hydro is thrilled that The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance has selected the Reservoir Methane Capture Mechanism.
The idea leverages the recognition of methane reduction as an effective action to reduce global warming by CPO26 and the momentum to realise and verify governmental and corporate net zero pledges.
Methane capture can significantly impact emissions from hydropower reservoirs and help hydropower asset owners achieve their corporate climate targets. Moreover, the utilisation of methane contributes to increasing electricity generation.
Brazil will have the opportunity to be the first country to pilot this innovative finance instrument.
